REALM brings together an international network of scholars studying the social and network processes in sending countries that bring temporary migrant laborers to work in Gulf Corporation Council (GCC) countries.
REALM: Imagined Futures
I co-led the Imagined Futures project with Charlotte Wang and Peter Bearman. Through in-depth interviews with young adults in three sites - Kerala, India; Sri Lanka and Mizoram, India - we investigate how local patterns of international migration impact how people imagine their futures as they enter adulthood. This project sheds light on how local context of each sending country contributes to how young people understand the challenges and benefits of labor migration.
